House Panel Chairman Has Left Hip Replaced With Parts Made In America
WASHINGTON (AP) - Rep. John D. Dingell, D-Mich., underwent
successful surgery Monday at Georgetown University Hospital to
replace his left hip, which suffered damage stemming from an old
skiing injury.
Dingell, 61, the chairman of the House Energy and Commerce
Committee, was expected to be hospitalized for 10 days to two weeks.
Dingell, a 31-year House veteran, had an operation last December to
fuse a bone in his right ankle, which was broken in a skiing accident
about 20 years ago but never healed properly. He still walks with a
cane from that operation.
Spokesman John Orlando said that over the years, Dingell had favored
his right leg because of the weakened ankle, and the shift of weight
to his left side eventually damaged his left hip.
